AI Short Drama Ideas: 15 Premises With a First-Episode Hook, by Genre
15 AI short drama ideas in five genres, each with a first-episode hook and a secret to reveal later, plus how to turn one into a series with the same cast.
A short drama lives or dies on its premise. People decide in the first seconds of episode one whether to tap the next, so the idea has to carry a secret, a wrong to be righted, or a love that should not happen, and it has to show it straight away.
Below are 15 premises of our own in the five genres that keep coming back in short dramas: revenge, a secret identity, family drama, romance, and the fruit and animal telenovelas that took off in Mexico and Brazil. Each one is written as a first-episode hook. Pick one, change the names, the place and the twist so the drama is yours, and turn it into a series.
Start from a premise
First-episode hooks, by genre
- A maid is fired at a wedding. Ten years later she buys the hotel where the bride works.Make it a series
- A man is laughed out of a job interview. The next morning the company's new owner walks in: him.Make it a series
- A woman finds her own name on the guest list of her husband's second wedding.Make it a series
Series are a Pro feature. Each premise is ours: change the names, the place and the twist so the drama is yours.
What makes a premise work
A secret the audience can feel. The best premises put the viewer one step ahead of a character, or one step behind. The bride who already knows. The heir who does not know yet.
Conflict in the first image. "A maid is fired at a wedding" is a picture. "A woman thinks about her past" is not. Write the premise so the first episode can open on something happening.
A cast of two or three. Short dramas are close-ups of a few people. A big cast is hard to follow in 90 seconds, and harder to keep looking the same.
A question at the end of every episode. Each episode should close on something the viewer wants answered: who is at the door, what is in the letter, what she says next.
Room for a season. A premise that is solved in one episode is a short, not a drama. Ask what the next five reveals are before you start.
How to turn a premise into a series
- Write the premise and the first hook in one or two sentences, like the ones above.
- Draw the cast once. Describe each character the same way every time: hair, clothes, age, one detail that never changes.
- Plan the reveals across the season, then make each episode end on a smaller question. Our step-by-step guide to making an AI short drama has a planner for the beats of an episode and a season.
- Make the episodes. In Clip-Short a Series drafts each episode as a narrated video with your cast, a title card, captions and music, picking up where the last one ended. Short animated scenes give a character a line to say out loud.
- Post them yourself, and turn on each platform's AI label when the footage looks real.
Fruit and animal telenovelas
The strangest hit of 2026 was fruit with feelings. Mexico's Expansion reported in April 2026 that telenovelas starring unfaithful fruit were among the most popular short-drama content there. They work for the same reasons any short drama works: a betrayal, an accusation, a cliffhanger. They are also clearly animated, so nobody mistakes them for real people. If you want a single scene of fruit drama, with fruit that speak your lines, see our page on AI fruit videos.
Questions
Can I use a famous character or a real person in my drama? No. Use characters you invent. Real people of our time, and characters that belong to a film, a series, a game or a brand, are off limits.
Which genre is easiest to start with? Revenge and secret identity: the hook writes itself (someone is wronged, or someone is not who they seem) and every episode can end on how close the truth is to coming out.
Can I make the same drama in Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic? Yes. Narration comes in 19 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese and Egyptian Arabic.
