How X pays creators in 2026: what replaced Revenue Sharing

Most guides online still describe Creator Revenue Sharing, X's ad-revenue programme. X's Help Center says it stopped accepting new members on August 7, 2026, and that it was to be retired on September 7, 2026.

Its replacement is Original Content Rewards. X said it would start giving existing Revenue Sharing members access to apply on September 8, 2026. You can check your status in Creator Studio.

• Original Content Rewards: pays for qualified impressions that your original content gets from Premium users.
• Creator Subscriptions: your followers pay a monthly price for extra posts and perks.
• Creator Revenue Sharing: closed. Any page that tells you to join it is out of date.

X can change or cancel any of these programmes at any time, and it says so on each page.

The two programs ask for different things. This is what X lists for each:

• 500verified followers
• 500Kverified Home Timeline impressions in 90 days
• 18+minimum age
• 3months of account activity

• Both programs: you are 18 or older and live in a country where the program runs.
• Your account has been active for at least 3 months and has a name, a bio, a profile picture and a header image.
• Your email is verified and your account uses two-factor authentication.
• You have connected an X Money account or a verified Stripe account, and you complete identity verification.
• You are not a state-affiliated media account, and you have not repeatedly broken X's rules.

Meeting every line does not guarantee a place. For Original Content Rewards you send a short application in Creator Studio. If it is refused you can appeal once, and if the appeal fails you can reapply after 42 days.

Original Content Rewards pays on qualified impressions: unique impressions from Premium users (Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business) on the Home Timeline, where at least 50% of the post is visible. These do not count:

X publishes no rate per impression and no formula, and its terms say it may change how payments are calculated. Payouts run every 2 weeks, the minimum payout is $30, and they are paid net of the payment processor's fees.

• The same account counted more than once on one post.
• Paid, promoted or artificially generated impressions.

To be paid in the United States you need an active X Money account. Everywhere else you connect a Stripe payout account and complete identity verification through Stripe. Someone who already did both for Revenue Sharing does not have to repeat them.

If X finds that views were inflated by promoted posts, bots or other tricks, the terms say you lose what is due and are removed from the program.

Each program has its own list on X's pages, and a country must be on the list for the program you want. A few examples from today's pages:

• Original Content Rewards: the list includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Colombia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
• Creator Subscriptions: the creators' list includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Colombia and the United Kingdom.
• Whatever the list says, the terms bar people in or from Cuba, Iran, the Crimea region of Ukraine, North Korea and Syria, and anyone X or its payment processor cannot pay.

Lists change, so open X's page for the program and search it for your country before you pay for Premium.

Subscriptions let your most loyal followers pay you every month. You choose the monthly price from the price points X offers, and your subscribers get a badge on their replies plus whatever extras you decide to share.

X says creators can earn up to about 97% of the gross revenue from Subscriptions and that X takes no revenue share. What comes off is app store or payment processing fees, cancellations and refunds.

• Posts only subscribers can see, with a preview for everyone else.
• Subscriber-only Spaces and replies, if you choose to use them.

Subscriptions can be bought on iOS, Android and the web. X does not say how many subscribers a creator should expect, and neither can we.

X defines original content as something you personally wrote, filmed, designed or produced that reflects your own voice, perspective or expertise. Commentary counts: reacting to the news or building on it with your own view is original. What does not count is content where your own contribution is small or missing.

Apart from the armed-conflict rule below, the pages we read have no rule about AI tools. They do rule out content "created or posted using automated means", and they do not define that phrase, so read that line before you plan around a fully automated account.

• Copied content: text, images or videos taken whole, including a video downloaded from X or another platform and uploaded again.
• Barely changed content: a word or two swapped, a filter, a new playback speed or a text overlay.
• Aggregated content: posts that mostly compile other people's work without a new view or framing.
• Reposts from other platforms by someone other than the original creator.
• Also ineligible: posts only about monetization coaching or maximizing payouts, posts with a helpful Community Note, disinformation, and anything made or posted by automated means.

Original under this program is not the same as allowed. X's copyright rules still apply, and you must have the rights to anything made by others that you use.

Since March 3, 2026, AI-generated video of an armed conflict must carry a disclosure that it was made with AI. Without it, X suspends you from the program for 90 days, and repeat violations end payments for good.

Do not use bots or tools to add likes, follows, views or comments, and do not repeatedly ask people to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost. X can remove you for either.

Original Content Rewards takes content in any format, from a post or an Article to a video or an image. A video earns the same way as any other post: only when Premium users see it in their Home Timeline.

Video length depends on your account. X lists these limits on its pages:

• Accounts without Premium: videos up to 140 seconds.
• Premium on x.com and iOS: videos up to 4 hours at 1080p.
• Premium on Android: videos up to 10 minutes.

Premium subscribers can download the videos you post unless you switch off "Allow video to be downloaded" while you compose the post, and you cannot change it later. A downloaded video that someone else uploads again is a reupload, which the program does not reward.
