How this list was made
We read each tool's own homepage, pricing page or help page on 29 October 2026 and wrote down what it says it does, what it takes in, the caption languages it names, whether a free plan is shown, what the page says about a watermark, and whether it reframes to vertical. Where a page did not say, the table says so instead of guessing. We did not sign up to each tool and we do not score the clips they pick: this is a map of what the pages promise, not a test of the results.
We do not print rivals' prices. They change by month and by country, and every page is linked in the sources with the date we read it. Clip-Short is in the list because we make it. It is placed by the same rules as the others, the rows are in alphabetical order, and the section about it says what it does not do.
- 12tools checked, Clip-Short included
- 8state a free plan on their pricing page
- 3offer a trial only
- 4uses: podcasts, streams, faceless channels, teams
The facts table
One row per tool, in its own words where it has them. Input is what the page says you can give it. Free plan is what the pricing page showed on 29 October 2026: yes, a trial only, or none. A watermark or reframing line the page did not state is marked as not stated.

Two columns decide most. The input column: if your source is a Twitch stream or a Zoom call, a tool that only takes an upload means a download first. The languages column: a tool may transcribe a language it does not name, but a named language is one its maker has said it supports, which is the one to count on.
Which tools to try first, by what you clip
The same tool rarely fits every source. Start from what you clip and who does the work, then compare the two or three tools that fit, not all twelve.
- Podcasts and interviews: Opus Clip, Vizard, Quso (formerly vidyo.ai), Descript and Clip-Short all say they find the moments in a talk and crop to the person speaking. Descript fits when you also edit the full episode by its transcript; Clip-Short fits when you want a clip dubbed into another language with a voice for each speaker.
- Streams and gaming: Quso names streams and Twitch as sources, and Opus Clip takes Twitch and StreamYard links. Crayo lists streamers among its uses. Clip-Short takes a YouTube link or an upload, not a Twitch link: download the recording, or save the stream to YouTube first.
- Faceless and story channels: Crayo makes clipping, story and faceless videos, and Captions puts an AI editor around its clips. If you have no long video to cut, a clipping tool is the wrong group: our guide to the best AI video generators covers tools that make a narrated video from an idea.
- Teams and agencies: Opus Clip has a team workspace on its Pro and Business plans, Vizard a shared workspace on Business, Descript up to 5 seats on Business, Submagic 1, 3 or unlimited users by plan, Klap a plan "for teams", and Munch is a done-for-you service. Clip-Short has no team seats: one account, one brand kit, and bundles of hours that stack up to 10.
What "free" means on each page
Most of these pages say "free". The pricing page says what that is worth: minutes or credits, how long a free clip stays, the export quality and the watermark. Read those four lines before you plan a channel on a free plan.
A free plan is a test, and a good one: enough to see whether the moments a tool picks are the ones you would pick, and whether its captions are right in your language. Clip a video you know well and judge the picks before you pay for anything.
- Minutes and credits: Opus Clip 60 minutes a month, Clip-Short 60 minutes, Descript 60 media minutes, Vizard 60 credits, Quso 75 credits of about a minute each, 2short.ai 30 minutes of analysis.
- Clips that run out: Opus Clip's free clips can be exported for 3 days, and Vizard keeps free clips for 3 days.
- Trials, not plans: Klap clips 1 video and asks for a paid plan to export it; Munch shows a 7-day trial; Submagic says "try for free" without terms; VEED's free plan lets you try Clips once.
- Watermarks stated on free exports: Opus Clip, Quso, Descript and Clip-Short. Vizard and Klap say their paid exports carry none; their pages did not say it of free ones.
- Quality: Vizard and Quso state 720p on the free plan, and Descript 720p for local exports.
Where Clip-Short is strong, and where it is not
AI Clipping takes a YouTube link or an upload, picks the moments that stand on their own, and prepares each one as a vertical clip with captions, cropped to keep the speaker in frame. In the clip editor you trim the start and end, change the framing shot by shot, cut pauses and filler words, and add a hook title. Exports come in 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9.
Two things few clipping tools do. Dub speaks a clip again in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, French or German, with a voice for each speaker and the captions in the new language. Remix turns a clip of up to 5 minutes from your own clipping project into a new commentary video, with research and a source for each fact. A remix uses one AI video, from Pro, a pack or the Clip pack; it is not on the free plan.
What it does not do: it has no team seats, it does not post for you, and it takes no Twitch or Zoom links. The free plan gives 60 minutes of processing a month with a small watermark on exports. The Clip pack, US$5.99 paid once, gives 120 minutes of clipping with no watermark and 3 remixes.
A clipping tool does not make a clips channel earn
Every tool here cuts clips; none of them decides whether a channel of other people's moments can be paid. YouTube's reused content policy asks for significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value, and it applies even with the creator's permission. Permission covers the copyright, which is a separate question.
Our guides to YouTube's reused content policy and to starting a clips channel quote YouTube's own pages. No tool, ours included, can promise that a channel will be accepted into the Partner Program; that is YouTube's decision.
Before you pick a clipping tool
- Start from your source (a YouTube link, an upload, a Twitch or Zoom recording) and check the tool takes it.
- Check that your language is named for captions, not only for translation.
- Read the free plan's minutes, expiry, quality and watermark lines on the pricing page.
- Clip one video you know well and judge the moments it picks before you pay.
- If the clips are of other people's videos, get permission and add something of your own.
