Who can join
Snapchat's Monetization Program is by invitation only. Snap reviews creators from time to time and emails the ones it invites, at the address on the account. Snap says it takes no fee or payment of any kind for an invitation, and that no third party controls eligibility. Anyone who offers you an invitation for money does not work for Snap.
Snap's help page lists these criteria for an invitation:
- 50,000followers
- 15,000hours of view time in 28 days
- 3,000of those hours from Spotlight
- 18+minimum age
Could Snap invite you? Answer six questions
- Do you have at least 50,000 followers?
- 15,000 hours of view time in the last 28 days, 3,000 of them from Spotlight?
- Are you 18 or older?
- Is your account a verified Snap Star?
- Do you live in one of the 43 countries on Snap's list?
- Is your content original and advertiser-friendly?
| Criterion | What Snap says |
|---|---|
| Followers | At least 50,000. |
| View time | 15,000 hours over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours from Spotlight. |
| Age | 18 or older, or the age of legal majority in your country. |
| Snap Star | Your account must be a verified Snap Star. |
| Country | You live in an eligible country (the list is below). |
| Content | Original, advertiser-friendly content that follows the Community Guidelines and the Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility. |
| Terms | You follow the Monetization Terms and the Creator Monetization Policy. |
From 7 May 2026 there is one more check. To qualify for maximum Creator Rewards you must keep at least 100 hours of total Spotlight view time on your posts over the last 28 days. Snap shows it at the top of Insights, in a section called Daily Rewards Eligibility.
Snap Star verification is a separate application. Snap says no one is entitled to a Snap Star, whatever the size of the audience. It looks at an engaged audience, stories for the public, notability, original content, and whether the account is a real person or people. General interest accounts are not eligible.
What earns
Snap places ads between Snaps in a Public Story and within a Spotlight video, and creators in the program receive a share of the revenue. Snap says ads are served mainly by the time Snapchatters spend watching your Stories and Spotlights. Two things count:
- 30 sshortest Spotlight video that earns
- 100 hSpotlight view time in 28 days for maximum rewards
- 2places ads run: Public Stories and Spotlight
- $0what Snap charges for an invitation
- Public Stories: ads can run between the Snaps of a Public Story.
- Spotlight videos: a Spotlight video must be at least 30 seconds long to earn revenue.
- Snap's advice is to make meaningful, lengthy and engaging Stories and Spotlights, and to add closed captions, which it says give context and help keep people watching.
Snap adds that if you are eligible for monetization, brands may also find your Public Profile and invite you to partner with them.
Which countries
Snap's help page lists the countries where Snapchatters are eligible for a payout from ads within Stories and Spotlights. On 8 October 2026 it listed 43:

Not on the list that day: Portugal, Chile, Peru, Iraq, Tunisia, Turkey and Japan, among others. Snap's page ends by saying it is working to make this available to more Snapchatters soon. The page shows no date of its own.
Snap's pages also hold lists for other programs, such as Lens Creator Rewards. The table above is the list for ads within Stories and Spotlights. Living in a listed country is one condition: you also need the invitation.
How you get paid
Snap pays through Creator Rewards. A reward shows in the Creator Rewards Hub (Profile, then My Creator Rewards) as Pending. You cash out in the app, and the money goes to a Snapchat Payout Portal run by Snap's partner Hyperwallet.
The steps and the waits, from Snap's help pages:
- Day 0A reward shows as Pending in the Creator Rewards Hub.
- Day 14It becomes Available.
- $100+Cash out in the app once you have at least $100 available.
- 14+ daysThe cash reaches your Payout Portal. Withdraw to a bank account or PayPal.
- Onboarding comes first. You give your name, email, state and country of residence, phone number and birthdate. Your name must match your full legal name on your tax documents or government ID, because Snap cannot pay you otherwise. You cannot edit it afterwards.
- Snap then emails instructions to activate the Payout Portal. Snap says that email may take several weeks to arrive. Taxpayer verification in the portal can take up to 2 weeks.
- A reward stays Pending for 14 days, then becomes Available.
- To cash out you need at least $100 available. Snap says it typically takes another 14 days or longer for the cash to reach your Payout Portal.
- From the portal you withdraw with the method you choose, such as a bank account or PayPal. Snap's payment provider charges transaction fees that depend on the method and the currency.
Snap can also cash out for you. If your available balance has stayed unchanged for one year, or has not been cashed out in two years, and it is at least $100, Snap sends it to your Payout Portal itself.
Rewards depend on staying inside the rules: Snap says that breaking its Community Guidelines, Spotlight Guidelines, Terms of Service or other terms may invalidate pending and available rewards. The pages Snap publishes give no rate per view or per hour, so nobody can promise you an amount.
Originality and AI videos
Snap's Creator Monetization Policy pays for “trustworthy content that shows unique effort and creative ideas, not just simple, repeated assembly”. Snap judges an account as a whole, with people and algorithms. An account that does not follow the policy may lose payment, have ads removed from its content, or have its place in the program suspended or revoked.
Examples Snap gives of content that is not monetizable:
- Unoriginal or automated curation: unaltered clips from TV shows, movies or music videos, other people's posts re-uploaded, or content assembled by simple automation with no sign of editorial direction.
- Repetitive or template-based content: the same tile image over and over, the same content reposted as new, or content whose core is mechanical, such as constant stock reaction footage or template effects.
- Misleading content: tiles or introductions that promise what the Story does not deliver, unfounded rumors, or old events shown as current.
- Deceptively manipulated media, including content made or changed with AI tools to manipulate people.
On AI, the policy says that content using sophisticated editing or AI-based tools is monetizable if it is original, entertaining or informative, not misleading, and the use of AI is disclosed anywhere in the content or in your creator profile.
Separately, Snap said on 31 July 2026 that wholly AI-generated videos are no longer eligible for recommendation on Spotlight. Content enhanced or edited with Snapchat's own AI creative tools stays eligible and carries transparency indicators. On 2 April 2026 Snap had said it was elevating original content made with the Snapchat camera, so Spotlight shows fewer synthetic AI videos and widely syndicated posts.
The monetization policy adds that an account that mainly or often publishes content “not eligible for recommendation” is most likely not a good candidate for monetization. Snap does not say where “wholly” AI-generated ends and AI-assisted begins, and it says no detection system is perfect. Read together, a channel made only of AI videos is a poor base for Snapchat income.
What ended and what changed
Snap has changed its creator programs more than once. This is what its own pages say about the old and the new:
- At launch (2024 post)12,000 h
- Help page today15,000 h
At launch, 10 million Snap views or 1 million Spotlight views were other ways in.
- 16 Dec 2024Snap announces one Monetization Program for Stories and Spotlight.
- 31 Jan 2025The Spotlight Rewards Program ends.
- 1 Feb 2025The unified Monetization Program starts.
- 2 Apr 2026Snap puts original content made with the Snapchat camera first on Spotlight.
- 7 May 2026100 hours of Spotlight view time in 28 days starts to count for maximum rewards.
- 31 Jul 2026Wholly AI-generated videos stop being recommended on Spotlight.
- The Spotlight Rewards Program ended on 31 January 2025, and the Spotlight Terms ended with it. Snaps submitted in January were eligible for payment in February, and Snap says creators have up to 2 years to request payment after the in-app notice.
- The unified Monetization Program, announced on 16 December 2024, began on 1 February 2025 for Stories and Spotlight together. Invited creators accept the new Monetization Terms in the app.
- The launch post listed other thresholds: 50,000 followers, 25 posts a month to Saved Stories or Spotlight, a post to Spotlight or Public Stories on at least 10 of the last 28 days, and one of 10 million Snap views, 1 million Spotlight views or 12,000 hours of view time in 28 days. It said Spotlight videos longer than 1 minute could be monetized. Snap's help page today lists 15,000 hours, with 3,000 from Spotlight, and 30 seconds.
- On 7 May 2026 the 100 hours of Spotlight view time began to count for maximum rewards. On 31 July 2026 wholly AI-generated videos stopped being recommended on Spotlight.
Other sites may still repeat the 2024 numbers or the old Spotlight rewards. Snap's help page for the program shows no date, so we cannot say when its thresholds last changed. Your own Insights in Snapchat is the place to see where you stand.
