AI disclosure (altered or synthetic content)

YouTube’s rule that creators say when a video contains realistic altered or AI-generated content that viewers could mistake for real.

Since March 2024, YouTube asks creators to tick a box when uploading if the video has realistic content that is altered or synthetic, for example a real person saying something they did not say, or a realistic event that did not happen. YouTube then shows a label.

Clearly unrealistic or animated content, and ordinary edits, do not need it. When in doubt, disclose: it does not by itself limit a video.
