Video size checker
A vertical 9:16 video at 1080 × 1920 pixels meets the shape and size rules of all of these apps. What differs is the length: a YouTube Short is up to 3 minutes, a reel up to 20 minutes (3 minutes or less to be recommended to new audiences), a TikTok upload up to 60 minutes, and a Spotlight video at least 5 seconds. Pick your file and the checker compares its length, width, height and size with each platform's published rules, in your browser, without uploading it.
Your file stays on your device: this page reads it in your browser and uploads nothing.
Any video your browser can play. It stays on your device.
The checker reads what a browser reports about a video file: its length, its picture size and its file size. Frame rate, codec, bitrate and sound are not checked.
The rules it checks
Each rule is one our size guides state, from the platform’s own page on the date shown. A rule no guide states with a source is not checked.
How to check a video before you post it
- 1
Choose the video
Pick the exported file on your phone or computer. Your browser reads it here and nothing is uploaded.
- 2
Read the verdicts
Each platform shows whether the file fits, rule by rule: length, shape and picture size, with the rules for earning, ads and Meta’s API listed apart.
- 3
Fix what does not fit
Too long: cut it. Horizontal: reframe it to 9:16. Each rule links the platform page it comes from and our size guide.
Questions
What size should a video be for TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
Vertical 9:16, which is 1080 × 1920 pixels at 1080 on the short side (our arithmetic). TikTok's ad specification recommends 9:16, Instagram takes any shape from 1.91:1 to 9:16, and YouTube counts a square or vertical video as a Short.
How long can a video be on each platform?
YouTube Shorts: up to 3 minutes. Instagram Reels: up to 20 minutes, and 3 minutes or less to be recommended to new audiences. TikTok: up to 60 minutes when uploaded. Facebook Reels: any length in the app since Meta's 2025 change, and 3 to 90 seconds through its API. Snapchat Spotlight: at least 5 seconds to post. Kwai: up to 5 minutes recorded in the app, and no limit stated for uploads.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The page asks your browser to open the file on your device and read its length, picture size and file size. The video is never sent to Clip-Short or anyone else.
What does the checker not check?
Frame rate, codec, bitrate, sound and what is in the picture: a browser does not report them for a file, so the checker does not guess. Instagram also asks for a minimum frame rate; check it in your editor’s export settings.
Why does it say "Check the notes"?
The file is within the platform’s limits but misses something it recommends, such as a reel over 3 minutes, which Instagram does not recommend to new audiences, or a picture under 720 pixels on its short side. It also says so when your browser did not report something a rule needs.
Why are ads and earnings listed apart?
They are other rules. TikTok's minimum sizes and its 500 MB file limit come from its ad specification; Creator Rewards counts videos longer than 1 minute; Snap pays for Spotlight videos of at least 30 seconds. None of them stops an ordinary post, so none of them makes a video "not fit".
How do I make a horizontal video vertical?
Crop it to 9:16 and keep the subject in the frame. A 9:16 crop of a 16:9 video keeps 31.6% of its width, so the crop has to follow the subject from shot to shot: Clip-Short's Reframe does that for a whole video.
Where do the rules come from?
From our size guides, which read each platform’s own help, ad and developer pages and date every reading. Each rule links its page and the day it was read. Platforms change these numbers, so check the page before you plan around one.
Does Kwai have a size limit?
Kwai publishes no aspect ratio, resolution or file size. Its creator page says you can record videos of up to 5 minutes in the app, and its payment rules for contract creators leave out videos of 7 seconds or less.
Horizontal video, vertical apps?
Clip-Short's Reframe turns a 16:9 video into 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5 and follows the subject from shot to shot; AI Clipping cuts a long video into vertical clips with captions.
Clip-Short's free plan: 60 minutes a month of AI Clipping, Auto Caption and Reframe, with a small watermark and no card.
