Safe zone checker
Keep text and faces out of the top 10% of a 9:16 video, the bottom 20%, the outer 6% of each side, and a column 13% wide on the right from 36% to 88% of the height, where TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts draw their buttons. On 1080 × 1920 pixels that is 192 at the top, 384 at the bottom and a 140-pixel column on the right. These zones are a conservative union of the safe areas the three apps publish, not measured on each phone.
Your file stays on your device: this page reads it in your browser and uploads nothing.

How to check your safe zones
- 1
Pick a frame
A screenshot of your edit, an exported thumbnail, or the video itself, then choose the moment with the slider.
- 2
Look at the red areas
Text or a face under them can be covered by the app’s tabs, the name and caption, or the buttons.
- 3
Move what is covered
Bring titles and captions toward the middle and check again. Download the overlay to use it as a guide in your editor.
Questions
What is a safe zone on TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
The part of a vertical video the app does not cover with its own interface: the tabs at the top, the name, caption and sound line at the bottom, and the like, comment and share buttons on the right. Text and faces inside it stay in view.
How big are the safe zones?
This checker keeps clear the top 10%, the bottom 20%, 6% of each side, and a 13% column on the right from 36% to 88% of the height. On 1080 × 1920 pixels that leaves 875 × 1344 pixels in the middle that nothing covers.
Are these the exact zones on every phone?
No. They are a conservative union of the safe areas TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts publish for 9:16 video, not measured on each phone. App versions and screen shapes differ, so keep a margin and check the post in the app.
Are the zones the same for ads?
Ads put more on screen. Meta's ads guide asks Reels ads to keep 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free of text and logos (read 29 October 2026, in our Instagram Reels size guide), and TikTok publishes safe-zone files for its ad formats.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. Your browser opens the picture or video on your device and draws the zones over it. Nothing is sent to Clip-Short or anyone else.
Can I use the overlay in my video editor?
Yes. Download it as a transparent PNG the size of your picture, put it on a track above your video, line up your text, and hide the track before you export.
What about right-to-left layouts such as Arabic?
Some apps mirror their interface in right-to-left languages: TikTok publishes a separate right-to-left safe-zone file for Arabic. This checker draws the left-to-right layout.
Does Clip-Short keep its graphics inside these zones?
Yes. The AI Agent places its on-screen graphics using the same zones, from the same file this checker reads.
Does it work with any picture size?
Yes. The zones are shares of the frame, so they scale with it. A picture that is not 9:16 is shown on a 9:16 screen with the zones drawn on the screen.
Clips that keep the speaker in frame
Clip-Short's AI Clipping cuts a long video into vertical clips with captions, cropped to keep the speaker in frame, and Reframe turns a horizontal video vertical.
Clip-Short's free plan: 60 minutes a month of AI Clipping, Auto Caption and Reframe, with a small watermark and no card.
