What Is the Safe Zone in a Vertical Video?
The safe zone is the part of a vertical video that the app’s buttons, captions and profile name do not cover, where text and faces should stay to be seen.
On TikTok, Reels and Shorts, the app draws its own things over your video: the like and share buttons on the side, the account name and caption at the bottom, sometimes a search bar at the top. Anything you place under them is hard to read.
Meta’s ads guide (read 29 October 2026) asks Reels ads to keep at least 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free of text, logos and key elements; on a 1080 × 1920 video that is about 269 pixels at the top, 672 at the bottom and 65 on each side, our arithmetic. TikTok for Business gives downloadable safe-zone files for in-feed ads, with a separate right-to-left file for Arabic. These are ad rules, and the same shapes are a sound guide for ordinary posts.
For a creator, keep titles, captions and faces in the middle of the frame, a little above centre, and check the finished video in the app before posting it.
