How to ask a creator for permission to clip their videos
with a message you can copy

Many creators like clips, because clips bring viewers to the full video. Ask first, ask in writing, and keep the answer. This page has a short message and the points to cover.

The AI cuts the best moments into captioned vertical clips. Remix a clip into a video you can monetize, or dub it into 4 languages. 60 free minutes a month.

How it works

  1. 1

    Find the right contact

Look at the channel's About page for a business email, then the website and social profiles. Check for a clipping policy first.

  2. 2

Say who you are and what you will do

Name your channel, the platforms, the format, and how each clip will link to the full video and credit the creator.

  3. 3

    Ask for a written yes

Ask which videos, on which platforms, for how long, and how they want to be credited. Ask whether they want clips taken down if they change their mind.

  4. 4

Keep the answer and follow it

Save the message. Post only what they agreed to, and remove anything they ask you to remove.

What to put in the message

Who you are

A channel link and a line about what you post, so they can check you.

What you will do

Short vertical clips, each linked to the full video and naming them.

What you are asking

Which videos, which platforms, how long, and how to credit.

How you will stop

A promise to remove any clip they ask you to remove.

Good to know

  • Permission lets you post clips. It does not by itself make them earn: YouTube's reused content rule still applies.
  • Clip-Short does not check rights to a video or its music, and it cannot give permission.
  • This page is not legal advice. Rules differ by country and platform.
  • Free to try. The free plan includes 60 minutes of video processing a month and puts a small watermark on exports. Paid plans have more minutes and no watermark.

Questions about asking for permission

What can I write to the creator?

Hi [name], I run [channel]. I cut the best moments of long videos into short clips for [YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Reels]. I would like to clip [your podcast]. Each clip would link to the full episode and name you in the title and description. Could you tell me in writing which videos I may use, on which platforms, and how you would like to be credited? I will remove anything you ask me to remove. Thanks, [your name]

Does giving credit replace permission?

No. YouTube says credit does not by itself make a copy fair use, and that writing "no infringement intended" does not protect you. Ask first, and credit as well.

Does permission make my clips earn on YouTube?

No. YouTube's reused content rule applies even when the creator agrees: a channel needs significant original commentary, edits or value of its own. Our clips channel guide has the details.

What if they say no, or do not answer?

Do not post their clips. No answer is not a yes. Look for creators who publish rules for clippers, or clip your own videos.

Where do I find the creator's contact?

Look at the channel's About page for a business email, then their website and social profiles. Some creators list a clipping policy or a clipper program. Read it before you write.

Is this legal advice?

No. Rules differ by country and platform. Clip-Short does not check rights to a video or its music and cannot give permission. Ask a lawyer if the stakes are high.

Is it free?

Yes, to try. The free plan includes 60 minutes of video processing a month and adds a small watermark. A paid plan removes the watermark and gives more minutes.

Can I fix the captions?

Yes. Tap a word in the transcript to fix it before you export. You can also download the captions as an SRT, VTT or text file.

What formats can I export?

Vertical 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. You can also choose 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9.

How long can the video be?

A long video is read in parts, so the clips come from the whole video and not only the start. The longer the video, the longer the analysis takes.

Can I put a clip in another language?

Yes. Dub says the clip again in English, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic, with a different voice for each speaker, and puts the captions in the new language.

Does it post the clips for me?

No. You post the clips yourself. On a phone the share sheet sends the file to the app, and you can set a reminder email for the time you want to post.
