What Is an AI Short Drama (Micro-Drama)?

A micro-drama is a scripted vertical series in very short episodes, often about a minute each, each ending on a cliffhanger. AI ones are made with AI tools.

Micro-dramas, also called short dramas or duanju in China, began as live-action vertical series on apps that let the first episodes play free and charge for the rest. Each episode is short, opens on conflict and stops on a question that makes the viewer swipe to the next.

An AI short drama tells the same kind of story with AI pictures or animation, an AI narrator or voices, and captions, so one person can make a series without actors or a set. On YouTube, the inauthentic content policy applies like anywhere: YouTube lists “a series following a set of characters across episodes” as allowed, and characters put in the same situation over and over with the same outcome as not allowed.

For a creator, the episode structure is the craft: a hook in the first line, one turn of the story, and an ending that asks for the next part. Clip-Short’s AI Agent can write and make such episodes from an idea, and Series makes them on a schedule on Pro.

Questions

How long is a micro-drama episode?

Usually around a minute, sometimes less, in vertical 9:16, with dozens of episodes to a story.

Can AI short dramas go on YouTube?

Yes, and YouTube’s policies apply. A series that follows characters across episodes is allowed; the same situation and outcome repeated is not.

Where do micro-dramas come from?

From China, where vertical short-drama apps made the format popular before it spread to other countries.

How do I make an AI micro-drama?

Write the series’ characters and an episode plan, then make each episode with pictures, voices and captions. Clip-Short’s AI Agent and Series do that from an idea.
